Customer Service Inspector Eligibility Requirements

To perform customer service inspections for Austin Water, you must first apply for and be registered with the Utility Compliance Services Division as a Customer Service Inspector (CSI). See Water Protection forms, applications and reports for the application.

To qualify for registration, you must hold and maintain one or more of the following professional licenses:

• Customer Service Inspector licensed by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) — see TCEQ licensing requirements
• Water Supply Protection Specialist licensed by the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE) — see the TSBPE website
• Plumbing Inspector licensed by the TSBPE — see the TSBPE website

All licenses must be valid at the time of registration and at the time any inspection is performed. Each license must be renewed per the applicable licensing requirements, and renewal documentation must be submitted to the Utility Compliance Services Division periodically to maintain an active registration. The division will determine eligibility and train each registered CSI in inspection and reporting requirements and procedures.
