Overview

The Bull Creek Basin Wastewater Pipelines Renewal Project will improve the wastewater piping in this sensitive environmental area. Austin Water is committed to maintaining wastewater pipelines to reduce overflows or leaks. Replacing pipelines in the Bull Creek Basin will help protect the water quality of this natural resource.

Through this project, Austin Water will replace aging and deteriorating piping with 7,939 linear feet of new wastewater lines. Construction will be in three areas in the Northwest Hills and Great Hills neighborhoods, as you can see from the maps below.

Timeline

Construction is anticipated to begin in January of 2024 and last 12 months. Construction will involve street trenching to remove and replace existing lines. Following completion of all work, crews will repave roads disturbed by construction.

FAQ's

Will you be closing streets?

We will be closing lanes of traffic, but not entire streets.  You will always have access to your home. For brief periods, driveway access may be limited.

What are the working hours? Which days?

Workdays are generally Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Some Sundays may be required.

How loud will it be?

You will hear heavy equipment during work hours. The City’s noise ordinance applies after 10 p.m.

Will my water be turned off?

At some point your water will be turned off, but most likely just for a few hours on a single day. Crews will notify you via flyers posted on the door, prior to turning off the water. In rare cases an emergency may cause water to be turned off without notice. We do our best to avoid this situation.

Will you dig up my lawn?

Most work will be limited to the right of way. In many cases the right of way is located between the street and the sidewalk, in an area you may consider to be part of your lawn. We will notify you as we start work on your street so you may remove plants or personal items. If you have irrigation system pipes, landscape features or retaining walls in the City of Austin right-of-way, they may need to be moved in advance of the construction. If the contractor damages any of the features in the right-of-way, repair and associated costs are the homeowner’s responsibility.

What are your plans for repaving the streets?

We will repair trenches during construction of the utility lines. Following completion of all work on all streets, pavement will be restored using a mill and overlay process that allows cars to drive on streets soon after the new pavement is laid down.
