The Right of Way (ROW) Management Division manages many of the day-to-day activities in the ROW. ROW is the public-owned land, including streets, sidewalks, and the area behind the curb. Everything from the street to the property lines! We manage the ROW so that we can preserve and prioritize your safety and mobility.

 

The Right of Way (ROW) Management Division of the Austin Transportation and Public Works Department verifies that ROW activities follow Federal, State, and Local standards. We make sure that traffic can move safely through and around these activities.

Announcements:

  • Spring Festival Season is fast approaching!  Activity restrictions will be in place from Monday, March 3, 2025 through Monday, March 17, 2025.  Requests for exemptions/waivers must be submitted no later than Thursday, January 16, 2025.  Requestors will be updated no later than Tuesday, February 4, 2025.  See the MG-08 section of our Mobility Guidelines webpage for more information and to request an exemption.  (Dec. 20, 2024)
  • LBI Certificates of Insurance: Right of Way Contractor License Holders reminded to update Insurance, Bond information.  (Nov. 27, 2024)
  • Conflict Resolution Pilot Update: As part of a pilot program, proof of conflict resolution for ASMP Street Levels 1 and 2 is not currently required. The pilot program has been extended through May 2025.  (Nov. 27, 2024)

Reminders:

  • You must report all of your permitted right-of-way closures via Austin 3-1-1 (or dial 512-974-2000).  Read more about this process in the TCM.  Your notification is appreciated!
  • Right of Way Management has transitioned from Function Roadway Classification to ASMP Street Level Classification.  For more details, read the memo about this classification switch. (Feb. 16, 2024)
  • All permits must be applied for online. Most permits do not require an appointment. To request an appointment click here. Your request will be reviewed within two business days.
  • Application fees are non-refundable.  Ensure you have selected the correct application by visiting our Permits page, prior to application submittal.
