The National Weather Service has lifted its Winter Storm Warning as of 10 a.m. Thursday.
The City of Austin will resume regular operations Friday, February 3. The National Weather Service has lifted its Winter Storm Warning, as of 10 a.m. Thursday and conditions are expected to continue improving throughout the day.
The City will remain under Level 2: Limited Emergency Operations Center (EOC) activation to continue to closely monitor weather conditions and provide updates as appropriate.
Austin Resource Recovery Trash, Recycling, Composting and Facilities
Limited collections resumed earlier today. Carts, bulk, and brush items should be left at the curb to allow crews to catch up over the next several days. Collections will continue into the weekend, and normal operations will resume on Monday. The Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center and public brush drop-off at Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant will open tomorrow. The Department is temporarily waiving the 15 extra bag limit for extra compost collection due to the winter storm; meaning residents can place more than 15 extra bags out for collection. Residents will be notified when this is reverted back to the 15 extra bag limit.
Parks and Recreation
Many Parks and Recreation Department facilities and parks sustained damage due to ice and downed trees. The Department is assessing conditions which will take several days-to-weeks depending on what is discovered. PARD Forestry crews have been reassigned to assist with clearing public roadways. Park patrons are advised to use extreme caution in City parks. Many trees have sustained damage, even if it's not visible. Once support functions have concluded, PARD staff will complete assessments and begin repairs/maintenance to resume operations. This process will take time, and the Department requests patience as crews work diligently to restore facilities. For information about park closures, visit: http://AustinTexas.gov/ParkClosures.
