The City of Austin has announced revised service schedules and office closures for City facilities and public services for Christmas and New Year’s Day. 

Austin Resource Recovery

Trash, recycling and composting collections for Wednesday through Friday will slide forward by one day during the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s. Wednesday collections will be picked up on Thursday, and so on. Monday and Tuesday collections will remain unchanged both weeks. Customers can check their collection schedule anytime using the Austin Recycles app or by visiting austintexas.gov/myschedule. The Recycle and Reuse Drop-off Center will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Austin Water’s Hornsby Bend Biosolids Management Plant will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day for yard trimmings and large brush drop-off.

Austin Public Health

Environmental Health Services at the Rutherford Lane Campus, Office of Vital Records, all WIC and Shots for Tots clinics, and Neighbor Centers will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25.

Utilities Schedule

The City of Austin Utilities Customer Care Call Center and City of Austin Utility Customer Service Centers will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 25. Customers can make utility payments at coautilities.com or by calling 1-833-375-4919 for a Quick Payment.

Additional payment options include:

• Paying at authorized locations, including most Austin H-E-B, Fiesta Mart, Randall’s and Walmart stores.
• Mailing money order or check to P.O. BOX 2267, Austin, TX 78783-2267 or using a drop box location. 
• Payment drop boxes are located at the North and South Utility Customer Service Centers, 625 East 10th Street and 505 Barton Springs Rd. Expect 3-5 business days for drop-off payments to process.

Customers experiencing water service issues should call Austin Water’s 24-hour, 7 days per week Customer Service Contact Center at (512) 972-1000 and select Option 1 to report the concern.

Austin Parks and Recreation

Most Parks and Recreation facilities will be closed for the Christmas holiday on Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25, and will also be closed for New Year’s Day on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025.

There are a few exceptions noted below.

• Bartholomew, Big Stacy, Deep Eddy and Springwoods Pools will close at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24, and will reopen on Thursday, Dec. 26. Barton Springs Pool will remain open on Dec. 24 and 25.  Bartholomew, Big Stacy, Deep Eddy and Springwoods Pools will close at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31.  All pools except for Barton Springs Pool will be closed on Jan. 1, 2025. Please note that Barton Springs Pool is “swim at your own risk” pool when the other year-round pools are closed.
• Golf ATX courses will take final reservation and issue carts at noon on Tuesday, Dec. 24. Golf ATX driving ranges will close at 1:30 p.m., and pro shops and concessions will close at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24. Golf ATX courses will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25. Golf ATX courses will operate regular hours with holiday rates on Jan. 1, 2025.
• City of Austin cemetery gates will remain open every day throughout the holiday season from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Austin Public Library Schedule  

All Austin Public Library locations will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, Dec. 24 and 25, will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, and be closed all day on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Library resources available remotely can be accessed at the Austin Public Library Website, library.austintexas.gov.

Austin Animal Center Schedule 

The Austin Animal Center will be closed Dec. 24-25. The Center will be open regular hours on Thursday, Dec. 26. The Center will close at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31 and will be closed New Year's Day. The Center will be open during regular hours Thursday, Jan. 2. 

Austin Municipal Court Schedule

All Austin Municipal Court locations will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25.

Downtown Austin Community Court

The Downtown Austin Community Court's Violet KeepSafe Storage program (VKS), Homeless Services, Court Services, and Community Services will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday Dec. 25, and on Wednesday, Jan. 1 in observance of Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.

The days following these closures, Thursday, December 26 and Thursday, Jan. 2, all services will reopen at their regular time: VKS at 7 a.m., Community Services at 7:30 a.m., and Homeless Services & Court Services at 8 a.m.
