You must file either a personal bond, cash bond or surety bond before taking your case to an appellate court.
When appealing a Municipal Court case you need to file either a surety bond, a personal bond or a cash appeal bond. The appeal bond must be at least $100.00 or double the amount of the fine and costs assessed in your case, whichever is greater.
Personal bonds
A personal bond is one where you swear you will appear before the court as called upon, in this case meaning that you will bring your case before the appellate court. If you don't, you agree to pay a certain sum (double the amount of the fine and costs assessed in your case) plus all necessary and reasonable expenses incurred in any arrest for failure to appear.

Cash bonds
A cash bond is one where you deposit the bond amount (double the amount of the fine and costs assessed in your case) with the court. If you fail to bring your case before the appellate court, the amount may be forfeited. If you do bring your case before the appellate court, the money may be released back to you.
