About the Commission

The Community Police Review Commission's purpose is to increase public trust in police through strengthening the oversight of Austin police by civilians and encouraging accountability for officer misconduct and brutality. It is a Board of the City and is independent of and separate from the Austin Police Department. More details about the duties of the Commission are available in Section 2-15-4 of the City Code.

The Commission was created on May 6, 2023, with the passage of Ordinance No. 20220915-087.
