About the program
The Prevailing Wages Program was created to monitor the compliance of City-contracted construction projects with prevailing wage requirements, as published and governed by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).
The Financial Services Department oversees all City-contracted construction projects with regards to the pay of all workers employed on the projects, as governed by Dept. of Labor-established prevailing wage rates and TX Statute 2258.
Prevailing Wages Program staff monitor active City of Austin construction projects by verifying compliance by the Contractor with Section 00830 of the Contract Documents, which covers Wage Rates and Payroll Reporting. All laborers and mechanics working on these projects must be paid at least the prevailing wage for their trade, as set by the U.S. Dept. of Labor, or the City of Austin minimum wage as established by City Ordinance, whichever is higher.
For all non-federal projects, the following posters must be displayed on construction sites:
- Texas Worker’s Compensation Notice (English and Spanish versions) (PDF, 284KB)
- Equal Employment Opportunity (English and Spanish versions) (PDF, 31KB)
- Texas Payday Law (English and Spanish versions) (PDF, 37KB)
- Rest Break Ordinance (English and Spanish versions) (PDF, 70KB)
- Title VI Rights (PDF, 84KB)
- City of Austin Contacts and Wage Dispute Notice (English and Spanish versions) (PDF, 87KB)
- Wage Theft Ordinance (PDF, 647 KB)
- A copy of all applicable Prevailing Wage Rates for the project (provided at the pre-construction meeting by Wage Compliance staff)
City projects receiving federal funds are required to display additional posters, subject to the requirements of the funding source. All required wage-related posters are provided to the Contractor by City staff prior to the start of work. All required postings are provided by City staff at a project's pre-construction meeting prior to start of work.
