In 2018, the City of Austin began work on a Preliminary Engineering Report to evaluate the possibility of a new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Lady Bird Lake, as well as a review of possible interim improvements to the existing bridge. The preliminary engineering report will analyze several crossing alternatives and make a final recommendation.
There will be a total of three public meetings for the project. The project team will present a final recommendation on a bridge alignment and interim improvements at the third meeting.
Previous Public Engagement and Feedback
In fall 2018, the project team held the first public meeting and released an online survey to collect feedback on needs and potential interim improvements for Longhorn Bridge. Over 550 responses were received and analyzed.
Public Meeting #1 - Nov. 13, 2018 (Fiesta Gardens)

Public Meeting #2 - June. 10, 2019 (Fiesta Gardens)
Input received from the first community was evaluated to develop alternatives for public review. At the second public meeting, the project team presented and collected public feedback on alternatives for the final design of the bridge and proposed interim improvements to the existing bridge.
A survey was available from June 10 to July 10 for community members to review and provide feedback on the five proposed alternative designs. Survey results are being evaluated by city staff.
