Program Overview
The City of Austin Forensic Science Department provides unpaid, academically oriented internships for baccalaureate and graduate level students with career aspirations in the forensic sciences. Interns will gain experience and training by working in a forensic discipline or service area.
Interns gain valuable insights and skills that complement academic studies, grow their professional network, and inspire students to pursue a career in forensic science. The Internship Program is only offered in the summer and has a duration of approximately 10-12 weeks. Interns will not perform independent casework on evidence.
Austin Forensic Science Department internships offer an opportunity to work in a full-service forensic laboratory. Internships are offered in every discipline on a limited basis, placement in a particular discipline is not assured.

Application Process & Checklist
The application process is competitive, and internships are limited. Qualified candidates must submit the following information:
- Completed Forensic Internship Application
- Signed Internship Program Agreement
- An unofficial college transcript
- A letter of recommendation from Major Advising Professor
- Outline/Description of College or University Internship Program

Application Deadlines
Summer Semester
- Application Filing Period: February 1st -28th
- Intern Selection Deadline: April 30th
Application documentation must be received by 11:59 pm on the application filing period closing date. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Applicants selected for an internship will be notified via email on the selection date.
