On March 25, 2010, City Council passed Resolution No. 20100325-050, directing the City Manager to prepare a proposed bond package comprised of road, sidewalk, trail, bicycle infrastructure and other transportation-related investments for possible consideration by voters in 2010. The resolution also established a nine-member citizen task force to review the proposed bond package and make a recommendation to City Council.

Bond Development Timeline

City staff worked with the community to collect, evaluate and recommend priority mobility projects. Citizens, City departments and partner agencies identified more than 3,000 gaps and bottlenecks in Austin’s mobility network. This list was consolidated and refined to 474 projects that City staff evaluated.

 

 

2010 Transportation Bond Citizen Task Force

The Council-appointed citizen task force was composed of seven members, with one appointee from each of the following City boards: Planning Commission, Zoning and Platting Commission, Environmental Board, Urban Transportation Commission, Public Safety Commission, 2006 Bond Oversight Committee and Comprehensive Plan Citizens Advisory Task Force. The Citizen Task Force held six regular meetings, two work sessions and one public forum.

2010 Bond Election

On Aug. 5, 2010, City Council passed Ordinance No. 20100805-005A, which called for a special election to be held on Nov. 2, 2010. Austin voters approved the bond measure, allowing the City to borrow $90 million for mobility improvements.
