Watershed Protection is planning a project to reduce the risk of flooding in the Oak Park subdivision.

Public Meeting

Thank you to everyone who attended the virtual public meeting on September 17, 2024. If you missed the meeting, the slides are available.

Overview

A combination of solutions is needed. Among other changes, the project will include:

  • Updating two existing channels to handle more water and have a natural look where possible.
  • A new offsite channel directing water from the west into one of the updated channels.
  • Enlarging culverts on Parkwood Dr. and Oakclaire Dr.
  • Installing a new storm drain system along Parkwood Dr. and Oakclaire Dr.

Timeline

Capital improvement projects take many years from start to finish. The process includes the following phases:

  • Preliminary Engineering – a solution is identified and costs are estimated.
  • Design – the details are worked out and construction plans drawn up.
  • Bidding and Permitting – a contractor is hired and all permits are acquired.
  • Construction.

This project is currently in the design and permitting phase. Construction for Oak Park is anticipated to begin in 2026, but is contingent upon upgrading the bridge over Oak Blvd., permitting, and easement acquisition. The bridge upgrade is part of the Oak Acres Flood Risk Reduction project.
