The first round of the Good Fix Clinics series starts September 24–28.
Austin, TX (August 20, 2024) - Greater Good Charities is collaborating with Austin Animal Center to offer free high-quality, high-volume (HQHV) spay and neuter clinics for owned dogs and cats to the Austin community. Pets receiving surgery at the Good Fix clinics will also receive free vaccinations and microchips.
“We are thrilled to kick off a series of high quality/high volume spay & neuter clinics in the Austin area to help reduce barriers to veterinary care for Austin’s families, keep pets healthier, and relieve the burden on animal shelters to intake or euthanize unwanted animals," said Dr. Ruth Parkin, Medical Director for Greater Good Charities. “Through multiple clinics held in Austin we will sterilize thousands of dogs and cats across the area and help keep Austin’s families and pets together.”
The first round of Good Fix clinics will be held from September 24 – 28 at the Travis County Expo Center located at 7311 Decker Lane. Registration and drop off is first-come, first-served and will open at 7:30 a.m. Registration ends at 10:00 a.m. or when capacity is filled, whichever comes first.
Local Statistics
Community need in Austin for free or low cost spay/neuter programs has dramatically outpaced local capacity for it. Appointments for some pets must be made up to 6 months in advance.
The lack of access for free or low cost spay/neuter programs in Austin has resulted in a 6% increase in the intake of puppies and kittens under 4 months old, compared to last year.
“We are very excited to partner with Greater Good Charities to offer free, accessible spay/neuter to our community,” said Don Bland, Chief Animal Services Officer. “Hosting a series of high-volume, high-quality spay and neuter clinics allows us to provide essential services to our community members and by making these clinics accessible and efficient, we can help reduce the number of homeless animals and improve the overall health of pets in our area. Our goal is to support responsible pet ownership and create a healthier, happier community for both people and animals.”
Greater Good Charities deploys specially trained high-quality, high-volume spay/neuter surgical teams and works with shelters and community cat organizations to help control pet overpopulation in communities that need it most by providing free spay and neuter services to the public. These clinics help reduce the burden on animal shelters to intake unwanted dogs and cats from the community.
Greater Good Charities uses the highest standards of safety, veterinary medicine, and professionalism, including expert HVSN veterinary surgical teams, high-quality veterinary equipment to maximize efficiency and safety for patients and staff, and best practices per the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV) spay/neuter guidelines including sterilization ID via permanent tattoo and other methods.
