Graphic with title "Public Art Open Call to Artists". Graphic mentions this opportunity is for Austin-based artists and artist-led teams and the areas for this project are restroom entries, amentity lounges, and spaces for children at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Deadline to apply is March 31, 2025

For the over tens of millions of travelers we serve annually, art installations around the airport share the character of Austin and the city’s vision for the future. As that vision expands with the Journey With AUS airport expansion, so too does our art. The City of Austin Art in Public Places Program (AIPP), in collaboration with the AUS team, invites Artists nationally as well as Austin-based artists and artist-led teams to submit qualifications in consideration of collaboration, design, fabrication, and installation of new public art opportunities.

From to bottom: Thank you, Martha! Celebrating 17 years Helping Travelers at AUS. A photo of two people smiling at the camera.

Most people look forward to retiring with plans to kick back, relax, and—let's be honest—avoid dealing with people. However, that wasn’t the case for Martha. After retiring from her position as director of medical records at Austin Diagnostic Clinic, she still had a strong desire to help others. While searching for an interesting part-time opportunity, she discovered the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport’s Ambassador Volunteer Program and began her volunteering journey in 2008, continuing until this year, 2025. As we bid her farewell on her next journey, we want to take a moment to recognize her remarkable 17 and a half years of service to travelers from all around the world.

Collage of four photos featuring Vancouver's natural landscapes

If you're from Texas, you've probably been living your best life in the brief 70-degree spring weather we've been graced with recently. Wouldn't it be amazing to enjoy that lovely, non-scorching weather all summer long? What if I told you that you could hop on a flight this summer to experience another vibrant city filled with greenery, art, and sunshine—all in that perfect 70-degree weather? Of course, I'm talking about the glistening "City of Glass," Vancouver, Canada.

If you're asking, "What's so special about Canada? Hockey? Maple syrup? A moose sighting?" well, you're partially right. But Vancouve…

A group of seven people stands in front of the Half Moon Empanadas storefront, smiling for a photo. The illuminated sign above them reads "HALF MOON EMPANADAS," and the interior is decorated in red with signage promoting "Authentic & Delicious" and "On-The-Go Goodness." The individuals are dressed in business and business-casual attire, standing close together, celebrating the opening of the new food outlet.

We've got some pretty tasty news travelers! On January 29th, 2025, Half Moon Empanadas cut a pretty pink ribbon to officially celebrate their new partnership with Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS). That’s right, the long-awaited void of not having a restaurant with hot food on the non-secure side of the terminal has finally been filled—and with a dough-light cuisine, at that.

This graphic is titled "AUS Winter Response" and explains the division of responsibilities between the airport (AUS) and airlines during winter weather. Here's a detailed description of the image content: Top-left corner: The AUS logo appears with the title "AUS Winter Response" and the question, "What does the airport do vs. the airlines during winter weather?" In the aviation industry, winter poses unique challenges for airlines and airports. The season can be intense, with a wintry mix of wind, snow, and ice, affecting all forms of travel.
