The Austin Police Department Homicide Unit is tasked with the investigation of all homicides, accidental deaths (non-traffic related), suicides, and deaths of a suspicious or undetermined nature inside the jurisdiction of the City of Austin.

APD Homicide personnel are selfless in their sacrifice and commitment to bringing closure to the victims of these tragic crimes. They work tirelessly to bring the facts of the cases to light and partner with the District Attorney’s Office to prosecute these violent offenders successfully.

The Detectives assigned to the unit are on an on-call team rotation to respond 24 hours a day, should the need arise. They work closely with crime scene specialists and Travis County Medical Examiner investigators on almost every incident.  The detectives also work closely with outside agencies such as the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, comprised of U.S. Marshals and Austin police officers. All detectives assigned to the Homicide Unit are selected based on their work ethic, investigative experience and skill, police experience, and an expressed desire to investigate homicide cases.
