Second Sight
Opening February 8 and on view through June 21, 2025, Second Sight is a group exhibition exploring the mental pressures that arise from conflict: both personal and political. Through iconography, portraiture, and abstraction, Austin-based artists Samara Barks, Hailey Gearo, Brian Joseph, and Jonathan “Chaka” Mahone investigate the coalescence of the Black identity as global citizens. Join us on Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 2:00 pm-6:00 pm for the Solar Saturday: Black History Month Kick-Off Block Party! We’re starting strong this Black History Month in partnership with PNC, and inviting Austin residents and beyond to a free afternoon of programming for all generations. As a full-site activation, we will have fun events in the conference room, the classroom, the dance studio, the theatre, and the drum - not to mention the gallery will be open! Vinyl records on long play will fill the halls, a vendor market will be poppin'! Light snacks and refreshments will be served, along with interactive arts and crafts programming to engage the brain.

Join Us for the Carver Vision Project Update!
Stop by the Carver Museum’s Conference Room on February 8 from 1p.m. to 4 p.m. The Carver Vision Project team is excited to share what we’ve learned from the community during our December and January engagement efforts. The meeting will start with a presentation including key insights learned from you and follow with an informal open house on the project. See how your feedback is shaping the future of the Carver’s Phase 1 improvements and share your thoughts as we move forward. Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the conversation and help shape this important project!
Carver Vision Community Engagement Insights Presentation

Carver Conference Room
History, culture and art exhibits curated to educate and inspire. The Carver Museum has two rotating art galleries as well as four permanent exhibits honoring African-Americans in Austin and beyond.
The Carver provides culture and arts based programming free and for all ages to allow visitors to connect with community through special events and ongoing learning experiences.
The Carver offers culture and arts classes and educational programs that will come to you.
The Genealogy Center provides genealogy databases, workshops and seminars. All resources are free and open to the public.
Community Garden and Sunken Stage
The Carver community garden and sunken stage has breathed new life into the in the inactive Keeling pool. Recently repainted by Austin artist, Kelv Brown, this space is on its way to housing events in the fall. Renovated and reimagined by Greg Farrar, this space is outfitted by hand-made seating, greenhouses, and concession stands. Master Gardener Harvé Franks tends the planter boxes, as we continue to uplift this hidden gem situated directly beside the Freedom Plaza behind the museum.
