AUS Takes Off: Celebrating the Beginning of Our West Gate Expansion Journey
Hey there, fellow adventurers! It's your favorite hub for all things travel, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS), and we're thrilled to share the exciting news about our latest endeavor. Hold onto your hats because, on a beautiful August 30th morning, we officially relaunched our "Journey With AUS" to elevate your travel experience. The star of the show? Our 84,000 sq. ft. plus West Gate Expansion project, and boy, are we buzzing with anticipation!
Laying the Foundation for a Brighter Future
As AUS continues to be your gateway to the world, we've realized that we need more room to accommodate the ever-increasing number of passengers like you. The project construction has just started and will be completed in 2026. This event was all about celebrating the beginning of this exciting journey.
Rubbing Elbows with Austin's Finest
But let's talk about the celebration. It was no ordinary get-together. We had some of Austin's finest join us, including our mayor, Kirk Watson, Congressmen Lloyd Doggett, and Congressman Greg Casar, as well as Councilmembers Ryan Alter and Leslie Poole. They attended to remind us all just how important this expansion is for our vibrant city.

• Concourse Extravaganza: Imagine an extra 32,000 square feet of concourse space to roam, relax, and enjoy the AUS experience. That's what the concourse level is all about.
• Elevated Experiences: Literally! We're adding a mezzanine with an outdoor balcony for those who love the great outdoors and an indoor seating area for those who prefer to stay cozy and cool in the summer months.
• Backstage Buzz: Down on the apron (AKA where airplanes park while you board!), we've got airline support spaces to ensure smooth operations behind the scenes for airlines and their ground handling teams.
• Out with the Old: 12 of our gate-boarding bridges are getting a well-deserved retirement. We're rolling out just-like-new, refurbished bridges.
• Future-Proofed: With three new gates that will offset future gate closures for other projects, we're gearing up for whatever the future holds.
• Waiting in Style: Five new seating areas to ensure you're comfortable while waiting for your flight.
• Foodie Paradise: DA new restaurant to satisfy your cravings because we know that travel is also about the culinary journey.
• No More Bathroom Hunts: We're adding new restrooms (biggest in the terminal – we might add).
• Kid's Corner: Traveling with little ones? We're introducing a play area to keep them entertained.
• Zen Zone: Need a moment of serenity amid the hustle and bustle? Our meditation/quiet room is just the ticket.
• Family-Friendly: Family and nursing rooms for those traveling with loved ones.
• Pet Haven: Even your furry friends will have a dedicated pet relief area.
• Balcony Bliss: The new mezzanine features a public outdoor balcony – perfect for plane-spotting or simply taking in the view.
Breaking Ground on the Future
As we wrapped up this fantastic event, it was only fitting for our VIPs and special guests to join together to ceremoniously turn dirt in specially made Journey With AUS dirt boxes. This marked the start of our West Gate Expansion project, a testament to our commitment to progress and the beginning of a thrilling new chapter in our journey to serve our ever-growing passenger community.
