On Friday, March 15,2024, at approximately 6:16 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the 8700 block of E Highway 290 WB. The driver, Jacoby Dywayne Larue Mahome, was pronounced deceased on the scene. The passenger was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin's 16th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 16 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 22 fatal crashes resulted in 22 fatalities.
