On Monday, January 18, 2021, at about 10:02 p.m., Austin 911 received a call that a person had been shot at 5000 Brighton Road. The caller reported that he took his brother to 5000 Brighton Road to purchase marijuana. The caller stated that after his brother walked into the residence, he heard gunshots coming from inside the house. 
 
The caller reported that he then left, but quickly returned to the residence and went inside to check on his brother who he found unresponsive, with apparent gunshot wounds. The residents of the house had left the scene.
 
Upon arrival, APD officers were approached by one of the residents of 5000 Brighton Road, who returned to the scene, and told officers that he shot the victim. Several other subjects were detained at the scene.
 
Austin-Travis County EMS arrived on scene and attempted life saving measures, but the victim was pronounced deceased at 10:30 p.m. by Dr. Schreffler. 
 
Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel responded to the scene. Detectives have identified the parties involved and are continuing to investigate.

The Travis County Medical Examiner will be conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
