On Thursday, February 6, 2020, Austin Police Officer Dan Eveleth and his patrol K9 Bear retired from the Austin Police Department (APD). Officer Eveleth has been with the department for 23 years, 15 of which he was assigned to the Patrol K9 Unit. His current assigned patrol K9 is a 9-year-old Belgian Malanois named Bear. Bear will enjoy his retirement with Officer Eveleth and family.
Officer Eveleth and K9 Bear were responsible for 125 criminal arrests during their service together. They will be recognized for their service to the City of Austin and APD during a retirement ceremony today at 3 p.m. at the Austin Police Association Hall, 5817 Wilcab Rd., Austin, Texas. The retirement ceremony will be hosted by 401K9, a non-profit organization that provides medical financial assistance for retired police dogs. Officers, media and the public are welcome to attend and give recognition and warm wishes.
