On Saturday, March 22, 2025, at approximately 8:12 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) Officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the 8700 block of Menchaca Rd. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased on the scene. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Anissa Zapata, was arrested for Accident Involving Death and Driving While Intoxicated.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 20th fatal crash of 2025, resulting in 24 fatalities. This investigation is ongoing. On the date of this crash in 2024, 19 fatal crashes resulted in 19 deaths.
