Suspect (Arrested): Juan Carlos Rodriguez-Gomez, Hispanic male, 26 years of age
UPDATE:
On Sunday, February 16, 2025, a First Degree Murder warrant was issued for Juan Carlos Rodriguez-Gomez. On March 13, 2025, the United States Marshal Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force, APD Tactical Intelligence Unit, APD Air1 Unit, APD K9 Unit, and APD Crime Gun Intelligence Unit located and arrested Rodriguez-Gomez in the 15200 block of Sparks Run Road in Manor, Texas.
Rodriguez-Gomez is currently charged with the murder of Mario Damian-Rayas and two warrants for deadly conduct out of Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office.

On Saturday, December 21, 2024, at approximately 9:25 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the Chevy Chase apartments located at 2504 Huntwick Drive for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived on the scene, they located one unresponsive male, later identified as Mario Damian-Rayas, sitting in the front seat of a vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds. Mr. Damian-Rayas was pronounced deceased at 9:32 p.m.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed Mr. Damian-Rayas was shot in a vehicle by a suspect who then fled the area. The investigation is ongoing.
