On Friday, January 24, 2025, at approximately 2:38 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to reports of a vehicle crashing into a fence and then into a ditch at 10525 Wildhorse Ranch Trail. Subsequent calls indicated that the vehicle had been shot at.

When officers arrived, they found two individuals who had sustained gunshot wounds. One of the victims was identified as Victor Ekozeme, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other victim was transported to the hospital and released the same night.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. Preliminary findings revealed that the victims had arrived at the apartment complex in a vehicle when suspects began shooting into their car, hitting both passengers, including Mr. Ekozeme. After being wounded, Mr. Ekozeme attempted to drive away from the scene but lost control of the vehicle due to his injuries. The suspects fled the scene in a separate vehicle. The victims in this case are believed to have been targeted by the suspects, and it is considered that this incident is isolated.
