Suspect (Arrested):  Zion Singleton, Black male, 25 years of age

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, at approximately 3:02 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the Citgo located at 717 East 7th Street for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived on the scene, they located an unresponsive Black male, later identified as Chivalos Lockett, in the front passenger seat of a black vehicle. The suspect, later identified as Zion Singleton, was detained on scene. Mr. Lockett was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 3:24 a.m.  
 
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed Singleton had parked at the Citgo pumps and been there for some time. At one point, Mr. Lockett got into the front passenger seat of the black vehicle in which Singleton had arrived. After several seconds passed, Singleton got out of the black vehicle after having shot Mr. Lockett. It was found Singleton is a documented gang member, and it is illegal for him to possess a firearm. Singleton declined to provide a statement.

Singleton was arrested for First Degree Murder.
