On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, the Austin Police Department (APD) brought a crime spree to a decisive end. Several individuals, including five juveniles and two adults, later identified as Javonni McDowell and Rashon Mosee, were involved in a string of auto thefts, violent carjackings, and business burglaries over a span of two days starting on January 12. The case numbers for the incidents are as follows:
- 25-0110183 – Stolen Vehicle (Travis County)
- 25-0121332 – Security Officer Carjacking
- 25-0130167 – Vape Shop Burglary

One of the carjackings was of an on-duty security guard, whose stolen vehicle and equipment was subsequently used in two additional carjackings. The suspects were apprehended without incident at approximately 1:15 a.m. on January 14. In doing so, they ended an ongoing violent threat to the Austin community and prevented further victimization of our citizens and visitors.
APD would like to thank the many units and surrounding agencies that assisted in locating and pursuing these offenders, including several APD Patrol Sectors, APD’s Air and K-9 Units, the APD Robbery Unit, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Travis County Sheriff’s Office. These individuals were a clear and present danger to the community.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected in the near future.
