On Friday, November 1, 2024, at approximately 1:43 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a Shoot/Stab Hotshot call at Michelobos Nightclub located at 900 East Braker Lane. The caller stated two males had critical gunshot wounds. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two males, later identified as Tyler Cochran and Clayton Taitague, with apparent gunshot wounds. Cochran was pronounced deceased at the scene at 2:05 a.m. Taitague was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he remains in critical but stable condition.

Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed that Cochran and Taitague had been involved in a verbal disturbance that turned physical. Taitague was able to gain possession of a firearm, then shot Cochran. A security employee working for Michelobos Sports Bar observed the shooting, then shot Taitague.

Taitague is currently under arrest and will be charged with First Degree Murder upon his release from the hospital.
