On Friday, September 20, 2024, at 8:32 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between a car and a bicycle in the 6000 block of East Stassney Lane. The bicyclist was transported to the hospital. He eventually succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on October 10, 2024. The driver of the car, later identified as Abel Martinez, was arrested for DWI.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 69 fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 74 fatalities. On the date of this crash in 2023, 70 fatal crashes resulted in 73 fatalities.
