Suspect (Arrested): Chevy Kyler Monaghan, White male, 21 years of age
On Saturday, September 21, 2024, at approximately 12:08 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a check welfare call in the 2300 block of Brookhill Drive. Multiple callers were asking for a check on the couple living in the house and had concern that a subject named Kyler Monaghan was refusing to open the door to let them see the couple. Officers made contact with the resident, later identified as Chevy Kyler Monaghan, in the driveway of the residence. Mr. Monaghan informed them that his grandparents were inside the residence and were unharmed. Officers obtained a key to access the residence and found Mr. Monaghan’s grandparents, later identified as Shari Mallory-Maxa and Anthony Maxa, deceased in the hallway with apparent gunshot wounds.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed Mr. Monaghan shot and killed his grandparents in the residence.
Mr. Monaghan has been charged with Capital Murder and was booked in to the Travis County Jail.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 44th and 45th homicide of 2024.
