On Saturday, August 24, 2024, at approximately 2:26 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving a vehicle and two pedestrians. The pedestrians, later identified as Luis Antonio Trevino Maldonado and Johnny Joe Reyes, were pronounced deceased on scene. The driver remained on scene and was arrested for DWI.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 57th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 62 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 60 fatal crashes resulted in 63 fatalities.
