The Austin Police Department (APD) is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 154^th Cadet Class. The safety of our community is top priority and due to the fact that we currently have more than 340 officer vacancies, we need more officers whose passion is to serve and protect our community. 
 
Candidates interested in taking the Civil Service Exam must submit their applications by Saturday, July 20, 2024. If your application is accepted, the Civil Service Exam is scheduled for Saturday, August 3, 2024, and will be followed by a physical fitness test on Sunday, August 4, 2024. The academy for the 154^th Cadet Class will begin on Monday, January 6, 2025.
 
If the minimum requirements are met, the department has a comprehensive selection process that includes written examinations, background investigations, psychological evaluations, physical fitness assessments, polygraph examinations, and interviews.
 
In preparation for the exam, personnel from the Recruiting Unit will be available to discuss the application process, required qualifications, and answer any other questions to help provide a clear understanding of what is needed to start a career with APD.

Civil Service Exam and Physical Fitness Test Dates:

• Saturday, August 3, 2024, followed by a Physical fitness test Sunday, August 4, 2024.

Academy Begins:

• Monday, January 6, 2025
