On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at approximately 3:34 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to multiple calls of a shooting at 8501 Dryfield Drive. One of the callers stated that a suspect shot someone and left the scene. The suspect was described as a Black male wearing a white shirt and black shorts. Other callers stated the suspect went through backyards while trying to leave the area.
Officers arriving on scene located a White male with apparent gunshot wounds at 8501 Dryfield Drive. This victim was later identified as Joshua Kozak. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (A/TCEMS) arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but Mr. Kozak was pronounced deceased at 4:03 p.m.
Homicide Detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation revealed that Mr. Kozak was shot and killed by a Black male suspect wearing a white tank top who can be seen on surveillance video fleeing the area.
The suspect is described as:
- Black male
- He was last seen wearing a white sleeveless shirt and black shorts.
