On Sunday, July 7, 2024, at 9:57 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash between an SUV and a motorcycle in the intersection of West Parmer Lane and McNeil Drive. The motorcyclist, identified as Samantha Spears, was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver and passengers of the vehicle remained on scene, were not injured, and are cooperating with the investigation.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 41st fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 43 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 51 fatal crashes resulted in 51 fatalities.
