Austin Shelter for Women and Children (ASWC)

ASWC is a county-owned facility, leased by the City, operated by the Salvation Army. The emergency shelter serves single adult women and women and their dependents.

Eighth Street Shelter (Women and Transgender)

The Eighth St. Shelter is an emergency shelter for women and transgender clients. The facility is owned by the City of Austin and operated by Urban Alchemy.

Referral to the Eighth Street Shelter is managed through a waitlist system overseen by the Homeless Strategy Office. Individuals who need shelter must call the Sunrise Homeless Navigation Center at 512-522-1097 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Services include:
  • Daily transportation services. 

  • Onsite access to case management. 

  • Wellness activities.

Homeless Strategy Office

Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH)

ARCH is a city-owned housing-focused men’s shelter located in downtown Austin, managed by Urban Alchemy. It offers emergency shelter, basic services and connections to housing for 130 men.

Referral to the ARCH shelter is managed through a waitlist system overseen by the Homeless Strategy Office. Individuals who need shelter must call the Sunrise Homeless Navigation Center at 512-522-1097 between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Services include:
  • Case management

  • Job placement

  • Legal assistance

  • Veteran services

  • Mental health services

  • Healthcare through the CommUnity Care Clinic

Marshalling Yard Emergency Shelter (Temporary)

The Marshalling Yard Emergency Shelter is a temporary shelter with capacity to serve up to 300 clients. The facility is owned by the City of Austin and operated by Family Endeavors. Marshalling Yard Emergency Shelter is not a walk-up shelter.

All intakes at the Marshalling Yard Emergency Shelter must go through a City of Austin department, in cooperation with the Homeless Strategy Office.


Emergency Shelter

Emergency Shelter programs are designed to provide emergency lodging for households who are experiencing homelessness, enroll in the Coordinated Entry System, and help households access mainstream benefits, housing opportunities, and community resources to end their homelessness. ​


Northbridge and Southbridge Shelters

The City of Austin’s Northbridge and Southbridge shelters are part of the Housing-Focused Encampment Assistance Link (HEAL) Initiative, and individuals have moved from high-risk encampments into these shelters. 

Intake at the Northbridge and Southbridge shelters will primarily occur through the Housing-Focused Encampment Assistance Link (HEAL) Initiative.
