On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at approximately 7:28 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a two-vehicle vehicle crash at the intersection of South Lamar Blvd. and Barton Skyway. The driver of a sedan, who was later identified as Edward Guy Maddox, was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased on Thursday, May 23, 2024. The driver of a pick-up truck remained on scene, was not injured, and is cooperating with the investigation.

This incident is being investigated as Austin's 28th fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 28 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 36 fatal crashes resulted in 36 fatalities.
