On Sunday, May 5, 2024, at approximately 11:04 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to the 700 block of West William Cannon Drive for a Check Welfare call for a man who was bleeding. Officers arrived and located a male on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (A/TCEMS) transported the victim to a hospital where he was later pronounced deceased at 7:13 a.m.

Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene and interview witnesses. The investigation showed that the victim had just arrived at an apartment complex with another companion and was shot by an unknown suspect who fled the area. Detectives are still actively working the homicide and are asking for anyone with any information to come forward.

This case is being investigated as Austin's 20th homicide of 2024.
