On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at approximately 7:39 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the 2200 block of Forbes Dr. The crash occurred when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a light pole. The passenger of the vehicle, Carolina Lopez, was transported to the hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased, on Thursday, April 11, 2024. The driver of the vehicle was transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

This incident is being investigated as Austin’s 23rd fatal crash of 2024, resulting in 23 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2023, 29 fatal crashes resulted in 29 fatalities.
