UPDATE: The Homicide Unit along with the Gang Suppression Unit and Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) initiated a months long investigation to identify the suspects responsible for Francisco's murder and bring them to justice.

On Monday, March 25, Homicide and Gang unit Detectives along with Officers with VCTF executed a residential search warrant in the area of Loyola Lane and Decker Lane. During this investigation, the lead Detectives were able to identify a juvenile male as a suspect in the murder. This juvenile was found to be in possession of multiple extended capacity pistol magazines that were linked to the murder weapon.

Detectives were also able to determine that this juvenile was involved in several other shootings including a drive-by shooting that occurred on December 20, 2023, at a convenience store in the North Austin area.  At the time of the drive by shooting, there were nine victims inside of the store including five children in the age range of 4 to 15 years old. All nine of these victims were forced to take evasive actions away from the gunfire to prevent injuries.

This juvenile was arrested on Tuesday, March 26, for Murder and five Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charges and booked into Gardner Betts Juvenile Detention Center. A second arrest of another juvenile was also made in relation to the drive-by shooting on December 20, 2023. APD Homicide Unit Detective Gebhart has been in close contact with the family of Francisco and hopes this arrest, that was made possible through collaboration with the APD Gang unit and APD VCTF, will help bring some peace to Francisco’s family during this difficult time.

On Monday, January 8, 2024, at approximately 7:48 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a shooting at the Avalon Palms apartment complex, located at 9300 Northgate Boulevard. Officers arrived at the scene and located a man, later identified as Francisco Muntufa Miranda, with an apparent gunshot wound. Austin-Travis County EMS arrived on scene and transported Miranda to a local hospital, where he later died.
 
Homicide detectives and crimes scene specialists responded to process the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that one or more suspects involved in this case may frequent the Avalon Palms apartment complex. No arrests have been made at this time, and the suspect(s) remain at large.
 
The Austin Police Department is asking the public for any information related to this murder or the suspect(s).
