On Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at approximately 1:33 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a crash involving two vehicles and a bicycle in the 5600 block of E Parmer Lane. The bicyclist, who was later identified as Ashton Hutchison, died on the scene. One of the drivers remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The other driver left the scene but was later arrested. He has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and failure to stop and render aid.
 
This incident is being investigated as Austin's 87th fatal crash of 2023, resulting in 90 fatalities for the year. On the date of this crash in 2022, 104 fatal crashes resulted in 108 deaths.
