NOTICE OF COMPLAINT
February 3, 2023
ICMS #: 2023-0085
On January 31, 2023, the OPO received an email complaint.
The complainant alleges: I called into the police department for domestic disturbance,
My son heard a loud bang was really scared and
called me over.
I called the police and they took roughly 30 minutes to get there. When upon arriving they
didn't talk to my son they didn't try to question him or make sure to make him feel safe
they simply talk to me and his mom.
Mom said that a shampoo bottle fell and they couldn't do anything else from there as well
as the female officer insisted my son go with his mom and that it was what she requested.
They didn't try to get down to my son's level and talk about what's going on, why he called.
They didn't make him feel safe for validate his concern that you guys were there to protect
him and that at any time he's always welcome to call me or you guys if he feels unsafe. The
whole interaction no one ever talked to my son or even ask me if they could talk to him, I
had to get down with him at his level as his dad and as his protector and talk to him, try to
ask him open-ended questions to see what he's feeling and when I talked to him he was
generally scared his lip was trembling and he even wanted to come up with the emergency
plan in case it ever happened again.
I told the female officer that next time if my son is going through something it's best for
her to talk to him first make him feel safe and ask him what he wants to do and not just tell
him what to do and the person he scared should not go to him it should be his mother that
should go to him but the female officer took all my advice and didn't do anything about it
and everyone just drove off. I hope nothing happens to my kids but if
does happen
