NOTICE OF COMPLAINT
March 31, 2023
ICMS #: 2023-0254
On March 28, 2023, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: She has a 50-year-old son who is mentally ill, has a brain injury,
and is schizophrenic. The son charged at her, and she fell back on her bed with a cane in
her hand because she cannot walk. She accidentally hit him hard enough that the
ambulance had to be called. The son has attacked her before. APD asked her if she felt
threatened and she told them yes. She was taken to the hospital because she has a heart
condition and then taken to jail. She was charged for assault. When she was in jail, they
asked her questions SO they could release her. They fingerprinted her, even though they
had told her they would not. They eventually took her in to put her on oxygen and gave her
medication. It was a bad situation because she recently had a stroke. She is under the
housing authority, and it is her house not her son's. Because they called her son the victim
she is about to be put out of her house. The situation was not right. She is an old woman,
and she must protect herself the best way she can. Her son had just gotten out of jail for
beating her. She was treated like a dog. When she was released, they took her out of the
wheelchair. She cannot walk SO when she took a cab home she had to crawl to get to her
door. She ended up with pneumonia. She now has nightmares.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
