On March 23, 2022, Austin became a Bee City USA affiliate. Bee City USA’s mission is to galvanize communities to sustain and support pollinators, specifically the approximately 3,600 species of bees native to the U.S. Such support involves increasing native plant abundance, providing nest sites, and reducing pesticide usage. Bee City USA is an initiative of the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation.

Austin is a Bee City!

Becoming an official Bee City is not easy.  Reversing the decline of native pollinators also takes work.  To support these essential "workhorses" of our local ecosystems, the city has committed to various conservation efforts. While these initiatives can make a positive impact, we can't do it alone—we need your help! Native pollinators work tirelessly every day, often unnoticed, performing critical ecological tasks. Together, we can create a brighter future for these amazing insects. Join us in supporting and sustaining them, as they need our help now more than ever.

Pollinator Week 2024

Pollinator Week is an annual celebration to support pollinator health and raise awareness about protecting these vital creatures. During this week, you can get involved in various ways, such as planting for pollinators, hosting garden tours, or participating in online bee and butterfly ID workshops.
Pollinator Week 2024 highlights the essential role pollinators play in our ecosystems, economies, and agriculture, encouraging us to envision a future where they thrive. Join us in celebrating by exploring resources, engaging in pollinator-friendly initiatives, and contributing to a sustainable and flourishing world for both nature and humanity.
