Complaint: The Office of Police Oversight received an anonymous email complaint stating as
follows:
"Hello,
I am writing to you as a concerned Austinite. There is no excuse for the behaviour
showcased by the Austin PD . It is abundantly clear that they are
unable to de escalate situations and incapable of showing up for the communities they are
meant to serve and protect.
I demand that funds be redistributed away from the police department. I demand that each
of the police who are on video assaulting citizens are immediately fired AND charged. You
have a responsibility to serve the residents of this wonderfully weird city, they did too.
They have failed over and over again.
I hope that you will not fail us too.
It is time. Defund the police. Demilitarize the police. Hold them accountable for their
actions.
Regards,
A human being",
