NOTICE OF COMPLAINT
May 20, 2022
ICMS #: 2022-0383
On May 16, 2022, the OPO received an online complaint.
The complainant alleges: My roommate died unexpectedly at home. Officers were kind
and professional when handling the event. I was directly instructed not to contact my
roommate's family b/c APD would notify in person as his family was located in the area. I
found out the next day that his family had NOT been contacted, and they found out about
their brother's death through posts on Facebook. The task of notifying his brother fell to
me. An unexpected death is tragic no matter what the cause, and should be handled with
care. I find the complete callousness by APD in fail to notify his family, including not
following up with me when they were unable to, unacceptable. I was not provided
the
contact information for the Victim Service officer who told me not to contact his family--
that the police would do that. However, her name was
of Homicide was
assigned the case,
.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
