NOTICE OF COMPLAINT
August 19, 2022
ICMS #: 2022-0685
On August 16, 2022, the OPO received a phone complaint.
The complainant alleges: He wants to file a general complaint about how police do
business in Austin. His volleyball team's vehicle was broken into and all of the bags with
their equipment were stolen. They have video footage of the vehicle with the license plate,
a picture of the suspect, and tracking of where the equipment was taken to, and the City of
Austin could not be bothered to send an officer out to talk to the coach. The City of Austin
re-victimized the kids. It's not APD's fault it is the policy. He is going to call the media
and wants the City of Austin to know how ridiculous it is not to send a police officer to a
crime scene where there is physical evidence of a burglary. The City of Austin is not
enforcing state law and because they are not enforcing the law, they are re-victimizing
victims and that's a problem. He has been trying to talk to someone about the incident for
almost days. He talked to 311, 911 and they have a case number that has not been
assigned to an officer. He had to fill out his own flipping police report, no one does that.
According to the FBI, Austin has a larger disproportion of property crime than any other
city of its size and it is because we do not respond to property crime complaints and the
criminal element knows that. He does not mean to be rude, but he is just upset that nothing
has happened, and he has never even talked to an officer. The complainant has evidence
of where the stuff is, but in
days it could be scattered across the state. He has left
messages for the
the
, the
and anyone that will listen,
but no one has bothered to called him back. OPO is the first to call him back.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
