On October 17, 2022, the OPO received an email complaint.
The complainant alleges: I would like to file a formal complaint against Officer
(working with a

in Austin). He was
very unprofessional and unreasonable. He was trying to escalate a situation without need
and threatened to handcuff me because I didn't have my drivers license on me. He also
threatened to handcuff my friend who was showing her ID because she was trying to stand
up for me and deescalate the situation. We were not threatening or violent at all and he was
very rude. Luckily, we were not afraid and were able to keep our composure and deescalate
the situation ourselves (all this while he is threatening to handcuff us) but I do not think
that many people in our situation would have handled his horrible behavior and attitude as
well. Honestly, this situation makes me afraid to talk to police officers in the future if I am
having any issues because of how mean, demeaning, unprofessional, and unreasonable he
was. I think that his behavior was very harmful to the overall cause the police officers are
meant to be fighting for and I feel ashamed to live in a city where this is tolerated.
This notice of complaint is a request for Internal Affairs to initiate an investigation to
determine if the employee conduct is within compliance of APD policy, Civil Service
Rules, and Municipal Civil Service Rules.
