The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Alberto Cortes-Rodriguez as the victim of the homicide in the 6500 block of Porter St.
On Thursday, March 17, 2022, at approximately 5:25 p.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a shoot/stab hot shot call in the 6500 block of Porter St. Upon arrival, APD and EMS personnel located a male victim on the ground with trauma to his body. Despite lifesaving measures, the male succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 5:52 p.m. by Dr. Abraham.
Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Specialists responded to process the scene. According to witness interviews, a motorcyclist and a resident had a prior verbal altercation. The suspect exited his residence after being told that the motorcyclist had almost run over his dog. After another verbal altercation, the suspect shot the motorcyclist and fled back into his residence.
The suspect was subsequently identified as Omar Martinez-Desiderio and arrested for 1st Degree Murder. He was booked into the Travis County Jail on a $125,000 bond. See below for booking photo:
On March 18, 2022, The Travis County Medical Examiner’s conducted an autopsy and determined the official manner of death as homicide.
