The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified Juan Villatoro and Heliodoro Flores as the victims of the homicide at Ojos Locos Restaurant Bar.
On Sunday, January 23, 2022, 9-1-1 received a call where the caller reported having been shot while at the above location. APD officers and Austin-Travis County EMS responded to the scene, and located two men lying in the parking lot who appeared to have been shot. One of the victims was transported to a local hospital. The other victim was pronounced deceased on the scene at 10:53 p.m. He was identified as Juan Carlos Villatoro.
Homicide investigators and crime scene technicians responded to the scene to interview witnesses and process the scene. Homicide investigators, as a result of their investigation, were able to identify Edgar Alejandro Barahona as a probable suspect.
Investigators were later alerted by officers at the hospital that the second shooting victim had been pronounced deceased at 3:50 a.m. He was identified as Heliodoro Arias Flores.
Investigators were able to procure two arrest warrants on Barahona charging him with two counts of murder. Barahona was subsequently located by the Lonestar Fugitive Task force and arrested. Following an interview with investigators, Barahona was transported to the Travis County jail and booked. He is currently being held on a $1,000,000 bond.
On January 24, 2022, the Travis County Medical Examiner’s conducted an autopsy on both the victims and determined the official causes of death were gunshot wounds and the manner, homicide.
