On Thursday, October 8, 2020, at approximately 10:23 a.m., Austin 9-1-1 received a call of a stabbing at the ARCH located at 500 E. 7th Street. Austin Travis County EMS arrived and transported 39-year-old Darius Maxwell to Dell Seton hospital. A man identified as 21-year-old Xavier Harris was still on scene and admitted to stabbing Maxwell. APD officers took Harris into custody. The APD Aggravated Assault Unit investigated the stabbing and filed Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, 2nd degree Felony on Harris. The bond was set at $40,000.
Maxwell was treated and released from the Dell Seton. On Wednesday, October 14, Maxwell returned to the hospital in medical distress where he eventually died from his injury. He was pronounced deceased at 9:09 p.m.
On Friday, October 16, 2020, the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and determined that the official cause of death was Complications from Sharp Force Injury. The manner of death was ruled a Homicide.
The Travis County District Attorney’s Office has been notified of the death.
