Congratulations to Nirupama Kumar for this winning photo of a Lion Dance!

Niru is Indian American, from Austin. "I have a lot of Asian friends, we try to get together culturally in different ways. It makes me happy to see all the outreach Austin is doing for the Asian community." Niru is the mom of Avinash, Nandini and Lakshman. The photo of the Arial Dragon Dancer was taken by Brad Vineyard @vinnyvidiart at the Lunar New Year celebration at Chinatown Center.
"I was in the Army stationed in Afghanistan and am part of a very multicultural community, so we went to Chinatown to check it out. I mainly take pictures of nature, but photography is one of my hobbies!"

Year of the Monkey Celebration, photo by Sarah Lo. "After moving to Austin 16 years ago it is exciting to see that not only are Asian Austinites able to reunite with some of their traditions, but that we welcome the entire community of Austin to join us.
Lo was a part the celebration at Chinatown Center through Red Velvet Events, the company she works for. "So much fun was had, but let me tell you, monkeys have no mercy on long hair!"
