Under a federal grant from the Office of Refugee Resettlement, the Refugee Health Screening Clinic provides services to refugees relocating to the Austin/Travis County area. Services are also provided to asylees (individuals who are allowed to stay permanently in safety in the United States), Cubans and Hattians who enter the US under the Cuban Adjustment Act, Special Immigration Visas and Certified Victims of Human Trafficking. Clients are eligible for one year after their date of arrival. The date of arrival is either when approved for immigration status or when a person entered the country. Services are free for eligible clients.
Refugee Services
- General physical examination
- Assessment of vision and hearing ability, and general dental condition
- Screening for tuberculosis, HIV, Hepatitis A, B, and C, syphilis, and intestinal parasites (If parasites are present, medication is administered free of charge.)
- Testing for the presence of other diseases
- Immunizations
- Medical social services
- Health education
- Assistance with the completion of the I-693 Supplement Form for immigration purposes, for established refugee clients
Accessing Refugee Services
- A referral by a Resettlement Agency in Austin, Texas.
- Clients who are not connected to a Resettlement Agency may come to the clinic Monday-Friday between 2 - 3 p.m. with a photo ID and their immigration paperwork to register for our services
